Vera French Housing Opens A New Style of Mental Health Residence

Vera French Housing has transformed a five-bedroom residence into a home for women who have chronic mental illnesses and have been longtime residents at its Pine Knoll site, which offers programming at a 60-bed facility in Davenport.

Studies show that tenants in these programs are less likely to be hospitalized and are very likely to have maintained their housing arrangement for more than three years.

Vera French Housing has created independent living opportunities for persons with long-term mental illness. For these people it will mean they will have a decent affordable place to live in our community and most important, a place to call home.

Vera French Supported Rental Program embraces a vision of persons with long term mental illness succeeding in a community living situation. Having affordable and safe housing are important treatment issues for persons with persistent mental illness.

Persons in Vera French Housing receive ongoing support services provided by the Mental Health Center and other community agencies. Services are available both at home and at program sites. The help offered is flexible and can be adjusted, as needs change.

Vera French Housing offers 118 units of apartments throughout Davenport and Bettendorf through apartment buildings, duplexes, and shared living. We also work with persons coming from shelters and homeless living situations. Each living situation is unique and there are different prices for each unit. Vera French Housing accepts Community Vouchers, and HUD funding.
