What is the Co-Responder Program?

In February of 2024, the Davenport Police Department and the Vera French Community Mental Health Center partnered together to enhance Davenport’s Co-Responder Program.

A Vera French mental health professional aids the Davenport Police Department in responding to calls involving people in crises. They focus on de-escalating situations, preventing arrests, connecting people to services, and following up to ensure they receive the assistance they need.

Addressing Mental Health Crises with Compassion

The Davenport Co-Responder Program is not just about responding to the crises in the moment, it includes follow-up care to ensure continued support. It provides an opportunity to build positive lasting relationships with the public in need. Responders focus on immediate crisis intervention offering support for individuals struggling with issues such as suicidal thoughts and directing them to resources where they can get connected with continued cared.

Who Funds the Co-Responder Program?

The Iowa Primary Care Association, who is the Behavioral Health Administrative Service Organization for the State of Iowa and the City of Davenport, utilizing ARPA interest funds.
